Monk Killers and Monastery Robbers
Bahtoo, September 25, 2008
It is reported that the Light Infantry 703 was one of the troops which attacked and crushed the Ngwe Kyar Yan Monastery in South Okala, Rangoon during the Golden Colour Revolution in September 2007. Deputy Battalion Commander Major Shwe Win and his soldier Khin Zaw Oo looted gold worth about 4 million Kyats, donated to the monastery by the public. Suspicions were raised when Khin Zaw Oo, a lowly soldier, bought a plot in Myine Tharyar village.
All the resident monks of Ngwe Kyar Yan Monastery were either beaten to death, tortured or imprisoned when it was attacked by Light Infantry groups 703 and 709 (both under No. 4 Military Operation Control Headquarters) and also over 100 police from No. 8 Police Force.
On 27 September, the angry citizens, who heard the screaming and shouting at night and also saw the monastery buildings covered in blood, and littered with broken glass and furniture, were staging a protest against the troops’ terrorism. In response to the protest, the troops were ordered to crush the protesters and 3 people were shot dead.
According to reports, Khin Zaw Oo was forced to resell the plot and the money was divided between the Battalion Commander and his deputy. The Battalion Commander Colonel Soe Tint Naing has since been promoted to First General Staff (G1) at Taungoo (sa ya pa)
The military officials, who gave the orders to terrorize Ngwe Kyar Yan Monastery are:
• Myint Naung (Brigadier General, and currently Head of the Bayint Naung Military School)
• Soe Tint Naing (Colonel)
• Shwe Win (Major)

How Than Shwe’s Daughter Wedding Is Linked To A Family Massacre
(Original source : Aung Chan, Golden Colour Revolution)
Rumours of how the family of Burma’s Supreme General Than Shwe is directly linked to the massacre of wealthy gem dealer’s family are spreading like tidal waves. This incredible piece of information was incubated within the close circle of the military élite and the Department of Home Affairs .
Obviously, that enormous diamond necklace worn by Khin Thandar Shwe, the daughter of Than Shwe in her multi-million dollar wedding, back in 2006 , was borrowed from the murdered family, who originally come from Mogok, the famous gem town. This knowledge is apparently quite well known among the top military officials, including General Maung Oo, Minister of Home Affairs and Khin Yee, a top police official. Than Shwe and family however, are still unaware that the knowledge of this is spreading like wild fire among the entire military and police forces as they pass on news through their lovers and favourite officials.
This was how it seems to have happened :
The family who owned the diamond jewellery naturally asked for its return after the wedding ceremony. This however, was repeatedly postponed by Kyine Kyine , the so-called ‘first lady’ of Burma, which suggests that she fancied owning them herself. The owner family naturally did not want to lose their family heirloom, and was determined to get it back. Kyine Kyine was furious. How dare some ordinary people think they can issue orders to me, the ‘first lady’ and wife of the Generalissimo? The Queen Bee then decided that she had had enough harrassment, and hired professional killers including one Wa tribal person and four Thais to murder the Mogok family with weapons organized by Than Shwe’s son.
Kyine Kyine seemed to have forgotten that every telephone conversation in Burma is ‘bugged’. Or perhaps she did not think that she needs to worry about the Military Intelligence in Burma, as she is the Queen Bee.
Both General Maung Oo and Khin Ye, who knew the entire story, are most reluctant to handle this murder case and for the safety of their own lives, they had
informed General Maung Aye and some foreign diplomats.
General Myint Swe, General Tin Aung Myint Oo and General Shwe Mann were also known of the case but despite the bravery medals proudly displayed on their chests, seem to have decided to keep their mouth shut, in case they should get suffocated by Kyine Kyine’s skirt. (women’s skirt or longyi is regarded as lowering the men’s power in Burma).
As the twists and turns of this gruesome murder case is beginning to unfold, observers are keenly watching the fate of General Maung Oo and Khin Ye.

Feeling For Burma , Inspired By Lord Of The Dance
A year ago, in September 2007, I was in a suicidal state as news of protesting people, led by monks on the streets was in headlines, knowing they would be brutally crush down by the junta, military government of Burma. Sure enough, despite the international pleading to spare thousands of lives, the junta went on to arrest, torture and kill as many as they could.
The world watched in horror as tortured bodies of monks floating in the rivers were reported. Burma, an official Buddhist country has become religiously most infamous among the human societies – a country where so-called Buddhists of the ruling junta kill their own countrymen and Buddhist Monks.
The reality hit and the horror and anger become guilt and shame, that we could not save our monks : the monks, who possess nothing; the monks, who only ate the food that people donate daily ; the monks, who taught us to live a peaceful life ; the monks, who went to the streets to tell the military government that the citizens of Burma are starving. And we failed to protect them.
One year on, the guilt and shame have become a foreboding, especially as we approach September again. Then, by pure chance, I came across with Lord of the Dance, a hymn composed by Sydney Carter. I am perfectly aware that it was meant to be for Jesus Christ but I was awed by the striking similarity of the way in which he died, to the fate of our Buddhist monks, especially the part
"They whipped and they stripped,
And they hung me on high,
And they left me there
On a Cross to die”.
Sydney Carter wrote..."I see Christ as the incarnation of the piper who is calling us. He dances that shape and pattern which is at the heart of our reality. By Christ I mean not only Jesus; in other times and places, other planets, there may be other Lords of the Dance. But Jesus is the one I know of first and best. I sing of the dancing pattern in the life and words of Jesus. (From Green Print for Song, Stainer & Bell (1974) )
It is therefore not necessary to compare Jesus directly with our own Buddhist monks but I feel strength and courage by reading this hymn. The last two verses are the most evocative:
“I danced on a Friday
When the sky turned black -
It's hard to dance
With the devil on your back.
They buried my body
And they thought I'd gone,
But I am the Dance, and I still go on”
“They cut me down
And I leapt up high;
I am the life
That'll never, never die;
I'll live in you
If you'll live in me -
I am the Lord
Of the Dance, said he!”
Yes, the devil is still on our backs but we must keep on dancing, however hard it is.
Suddenly I understand the way Sydney Carter coped with the death of Jesus.
Yes, Jesus was killed in a cruellest way but he would not be crying, weak and negative on that account. Instead, he was strong, positive and optimistic. He converted all his sadness and horror into tremendous courage and strength. By composing all the courageous lyrics into a most cheerful tune, he strongly challenged the evils and devils who killed Jesus.
Being brought up as a Buddhist, I tend to seek peace and calm, which means appearing timid and avoiding confrontation, and sometimes it seems to invite others to walk all over me. Worst of all I have developed a bad habit of focussing on the suffering and grief :
Monks suffer... monks suffer.... monks suffer....
We are sad .....we are said .... we are sad ....
We failed ....we failed ....... we failed....
Life is bad ..... life is bad ..... life is bad....
But the more timid, miserable, negative, and pessimistic the Burmese people are, the happier and more confident the evil junta becomes. For this reason alone, I refuse to dwell on my misery and suffering.
Yes, the monks and many citizens of Burma were brutally killed by the evil junta but I will not be crying and feeling sorry for them and myself for the rest of my life. Just like Sydney Carter, I will no longer be crying over our losses and failures but would march on and fight on. I would march on and fight on until Burma achieves freedom and democracy. In order to do this I will continue to attack the junta, SPDC military government of Burma in the best way that I can, so that there will be no peace for them.
On this first anniversary of the Golden Colour Revolution, I remember and give respect to all the monks and heroes who gave up their lives for others, for their humanity, dignity, and courage: we will all “live in them…” and they will all “…leap up high and .. never, never die!”

Who Is Daw Cherry ? ေဒၚ ခ်ယ္ ရီ ကို သိ ႀက ပါ သ လား ?
Do you know anyone called Daw Cherry ?
Contrary to her unusually short and simple name for a Burmese, she is quite far from being an ordinary housewife. She is married to one of the elite members of the military top officials.
According to the DVB news, her husband is the newly appointed Commander Brigadier General Aung Than Htut of Northeast Command. And she will not be staying home and unpacking her household items from boxes like most wives would be doing after moving houses. Instead, she will be blessing the local Maternal and Child Healthcare Association with her appearance.
My guess is that she is some kind of medical profession. She must be either a Pediatrician or a Gynaecologist as she felt the importance of her contribution to the local association with her skills and talents, so soon after the arrival at the new place.
Or she might be just a genuine born-to-serve kind of person, who would just like to see if there is any little help that she can contribute, for example collecting some donations from other Generals wives, who have better income so that she can make some improvement to the collapsed healthcare system of Burma , which has a record of 400 children dying a day.
Whatever her intentions are, it is generally positive news that some wife of a Commander General is showing enough interest to inspect the local healthcare association and we should all be grateful for her effort.
However, there appeared to be a slight problem with her visit. The SPDC’s local government officials U Nyunt Han and
U Kyi Win plainly told the locals that there is no state funding for the important visit of Daw Cherry. And despite lacking in funding, the local PDC officials are still determined to welcome the honourable Daw Cherry’s important visit with the stately greetings, which include 100 flying military flags, cutting the lawn and redecorating of the halls, all have to be provided by the local residents.
And what more ? U Nyunt Han and U Kyi Win want each family to contribute K 1,500 so that the spouse of their new Commander will be offered suitable luxury such as flowers and refreshments during her blessed visit.
Obviously, the residents where Daw Cherry is visiting are struggling farm labourers, who are already involved in the scheme to provide weekly voluntary labour on castor oil plantations by the local PDC.
Does Daw Cherry realise that her visit will be a huge burden to the local people and the wives and children of the families will have to go without dinner, in order to greet her so grandly ?
Will her high profile husband Commander Aung Than Htut decide to offer his own or some military funding to pay the expenses of his beloved wife’s ‘goodwill’ visit? (should he knows how the locals suffer? - he should as he is the local commander)
Would U Nyunt Han and U Kyi Win pluck up the courage and decide to just greet the socially-minded local first lady in an ordinary friendly way, and save the families’ money for their starving mothers and babies ?
This is where your part comes in. Perhaps you know this Daw Cherry or even her husband, the Commander. There aren’t many names like Daw Cherry. Just simple , plain ‘Daw Cherry’. Someone must have gone to school with her or worked with her. Her family friend, her driver, her teacher, her colleague. Someone must know her.
Or did you attend the military university, at the same time as Aung Than Htut ? Are you his friend, his neighbour, his soldiers, his relation, who can pass on information about him ?
Please do send any information you have about Daw Cheery and Commander Aung Than Htut, as it is important that the poor babies and mothers don’t go starving. Just send some messages in the comment box. As you know, you do not have to use your real name. Just soe, aung, nwe, aye will do.
Thank you for your contribution.

There is only one way to save from this historical shame. Just slice your face with a knife. What loyal servants we have all become (to the junta) ? Burmese ? Do Something About Your Country !!!
(Several Ways To Commemorate the 20th Anniversary of 8888 Massacre)
Whispers and rumours among the grown-ups of the arrests, torture and murder of any protesters and demonstrators, had become a fairly normal thing for kids to hear about in the 60’s and 70’s in Burma.
So many protests organized by the students and workers, were repeatedly and ruthlessly suppressed and crushed by the military junta since the infamous July 7th 1962 explosion. This bomb destroyed the graduation building packed with Rangoon University students protesting over the occupation by the military junta , immediately after the coup in March 1962.
Many protesters died, some were tortured or raped, or thrown into long term imprisonment. Except for a few of the students involved, who witnessed the fate of their friends and close relatives, people now tend to have forgetten the fearful events and get on with their lives.
Then came the 8th August, 1988 demonstrations, better known as 8888. This time, millions of people joined in and filled every street of every town in Burma. Aung San Suu Kyi was emerging as the best loved and most respected leader for Burma. People just felt good and happy and convinced that right would prevail at last. The expectation of freedom and democracy, an improving economy and the proper development of the country was high and everyone was an optimistic person. We would have the opportunity to be as good, or even better, than the neighbouring countries, after all.
Suddenly, the junta struck. Our own soldiers pointed machine guns right to the crowds of Burmese people and shot every thing that moved. The military with their convoys of trucks and tanks marched into the streets of towns and cities, treating their own people as an enemy. People dispersed in panic as the junta once again used unbridled military force power as they had always done since 1962; their most successful procedure was (and still is) to run down the crowds with tanks and overwhelming numbers of soldiers and paramilitary, arrest indiscriminately, interrogate remorselessly, and throw thousands into the long term imprisonment, in some of the most inhumane prisons in human history. The usual follow-up procedures to intimidate the rest of the country’s population are then carried out at leisure – picking up suspected protesters from their own homes like butchers picking up the chickens for slaughter, sending political prisoners to labour camps or remotest possible prisons so that families and friends find visits almost impossible.
It was obvious that the people of Burma were physically defeated again at the popular 8888 protest. Mentally they were also badly scarred, but the knowledge of the true nature of the now despised military junta, made them tougher as well as more bitter. Those millions of people who marched along the streets of the cities became the eye-witnesses of the junta’s ruthless brutality. The myths, legends and gossip of military junta’s arrests, torture and murder had become such obviously true stories of personal experiences.
Many people have fled the country since 8888. Most went to the Thai- Burma border. Some middle class families began to find jobs in developed countries and were able to settle as ‘expats’. Most interestingly, some of the officials of the military junta also started sending their family members to settle abroad, mainly in Singapore and the West. No doubt those officials sensed the hatred and the burning desire for revenge, that the entire public feel towards them. The overwhelming number of people who turned up to protest in 8888 to ask for freedom and democracy had clearly shaken them.
Twenty years on and the junta still has its boot on Burma’s throat. Crime after crime continues to be committed by the junta in the most brazen, shameless and cowardly manner. The country’s economy is completely corrupt and wholly subverted to the interests of the junta's small ‘élite’, so that they and their supporters have become dollar multi-millionaires. Even now, no one is able to exert political influence to do anything about this institutionalized criminality, including the UN.
The 8888 generations have become the middle-aged. The most courageous student leaders and the brightest of the politicians have been exterminated or are still serving long prison sentences as though they were the criminals. The humanitarian agencies are struggling desperately to cope with the number of refugees arriving at the borders.
This 20th Anniversary of the 8888 protest is a good time for every Burmese people to do self assessment.
• Are you Burmese or do you belong to an ethnic minority group?
• Are you a participant or a witness to the 8888 protests?
• Do you agree that the military junta brutally crushed the protests?
• Do you agree that the military junta is a terminal cancer within Burmese society, sucking out the energy and resources from the entire nation?
• Do you agree that the junta and followers are interested only in personal wealth and have no single interest in the real development of Burmese nation ?
If your answers are ‘Yes’ then you will want starting to do something about it. Here are some suggestions :
Make a list of the junta members that you know
You may have gone to school or college with family members of the military officers, or you might have had the pleasure of having to work with/for them. Record their names and addresses and publish them in a blog, or email to existing well-known blogs.
Expose the militia members (Thugs = Soon Arr Shin)
Do the same as you do for the military officers’ families. It is reported that 50 of those Soon Arr Shin thugs will be allocated in each quarter in Rangoon. Well, what is the population of each quarter ? It must be at least tens of thousands. You will know who the thugs are; record their names and spread the news quickly and widely as possible. If you are too worried about getting caught then write their names and addresses on paper and drop them on the street corners.
If you don’t want to get involved in dangerous spying games then simply just sit down and give a full bow (sheet koo) whenever the thug in your quarter walks by. Elderly people, children and even monks are most suitable to follow this tactic as no one can arrest you if you are only giving a full holy respect to the licensed thugs.
Expose brutal and corrupt prison and police officials
Identification of these criminals may be harder to carry out, but some names of local police officials may appear often in the newspapers.
For the prison officials, you may know their wives, you may be their doctor or a nurse who treated them, you may have been their teacher, you may know the schools they send their children.
Diplomats
Diplomatic staff represent, and are paid to lie for, the military government. They put on brave faces and cheesy smiles, covered themselves with skin as thick as crocodiles’, to hold on to their positions. Their rundown offices are not only filled with cigarette smoke but also with filthy jokes as their limited minds wander only between their knees and their navel. Staff at Bangkok and Singapore are possibly a little busier as they not only have to be vigilant of attacks and abuse from exiled Burmese, but have also to spy on them so that they can confiscate these bad people’s passports in revenge. Assignments are always carefully planned. The closer you are related to the junta, the better position you are likely to get and also what they considered as the best countries from the most developed and democratic world. Most self-made officials who have no good connections will always end up in the third-world countries and their careers also end just below the rank of Ambassador. Their only ambition is to get the next foreign assignment after suffering 3 or 4 years of misery in the ghostly city of Naypyidaw.
If you are an exile Burmese, find out who the embassy staff are and broadcast the information as best you can.
Students
Most military students are sent to countries like Russia and China to learn how to kill their own unarmed compatriots with the guns, so that they can become future members of the junta. Just as for diplomats, the selections are made carefully and later when qualified, the positions will be allocated according to the connections with the junta.
Private jets are hired to carry full loads of military students to places like Moscow every year, to be taught the skills of civil suppression at the feet of authorities such as the KGB. Find out who the future military criminals are. Always remember that their salary and scholarships come from blood and sweat of the Burmese public.
These are only a few examples to start you off, and you may well be able to think of much better ideas. If so, please let others know.
No one can deny that Burma continues to crumble and millions of its people are starving. The military government who still officially rules the country, takes no responsibility or interest to save the country from being the poorest in the world. Once their bank accounts are full, the top officers and their families will go abroad and start a new and comfortable life, while poor young Burmese girls are forced into prostitution and young boys forced to join the army as slaves for the Generals.
If you consider yourself a genuine loyal Burmese and would like to play a small part to help the nation, then please take part and do what you can to save our beloved country.
There is no better time to make your resolution to help the country than this 20th Anniversary of 8888 Massacre, when thousands of courageous students and civilians bravely gave up their lives for freedom and democracy in Burma.

Take action - Stop Insurance companies funding Burma's Generals
Please write to the companies listed here and tell them to stop supporting a regime that shoots innocent protestors and uses rape as a weapon of war.
The Burma Campaign report shows that when insurance is withdrawn the regime loses millions of dollars, money they'd normally using on the military.
Please take a moment and write, fax or email the companies listed. There is a sample letter you may wish to use to send to the companies. Please click here to Take Action.

"I have deepest respect for all the people of Burma, who continue to show tremendous courage in facing and overcoming incredible difficulties and suffering simply to survive. However, just by standing there bravely, bending your heads down to tolerate and accept whatever the bullies are doing to you, would not stop them. Tolerance is seen as submissiveness and only encourages contempt by the government and will only cause continued abuse."
"There is only one way to escape from under the systematic military terrorists occupation and to regain and develop our nation - We must all fight. "

Can You See It ?
If they are not willing to change, then I have something to tell them to wake up…
100% is Burma population. Out of that
10% are SPDC = junta
50% are USDA
40% between civilians and soldiers around (15-20% civilians)
Then…
SPDC=junta = criminals
USDA = thieves, criminals, deceivers, etc
+/- 20% SOLDIERS = criminals by force/orders from SPDC
+/-20% civilians = beggars those include the monks which is an army in themselves, what is left? A very small number of decent people we can count with our fingers, few of those are in jail or detention.
Shall I tell them that in majority what Burma really is? Waste of time but this is reality as the junta has turned a beautiful majestic population into racists, greedy criminals with a good percentage of beggars as many of those are forced into hard labour.
This is reality, but their pride does not allow them to see it. It is not only in Burma, it’s the same story in many countries around the globe. We have similar histories. History cannot be erased, only by the junta in Burma.
(My good friend's comment about the current situation in Burma in the email. I thought every Burmese should see it)

Dirty Panties To Burmese Embassies
As you are sending some donations to Burma cyclone victims please also remember to send your dirty old panties to the Burmese Embassies across the world.
Far from being concerned about the millions of starving cyclone victims, the junta is trying to make profit out of the international aid they receive for the victims.
They also insulted the intelligence of whole world by announcing their resounding victory over the referendum, held at gunpoint and over the dead bodies of victims of cyclone Nargis, as they world pleaded with them to help the dying people instead.
What’s more, they carry on arresting more people from the opposition National League for Democracy, led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, which legally won their landslide victory in the 1990 election.
There are no words left to describe the inhumanity of the junta; but guess what, they are afraid of the women’s underwear as they think it will rub off and erode their ‘power’.
So please keep sending the used and dirty underpants to the Embassies across the world. If you live in the city, just make sure that you hang those smelly panties by the front door of the Embassy.
If you live in the country side, just send them by post. If you just send the used panty liners, it should not cost extra postages as they are very light and thin.
Thank you for all your help.

Burmese Junta Should Be Tried
The Press Association
The military regime in cyclone-struck Burma should be hauled before the International Criminal Court for its failure to help the country's people, a senior Tory has said.
The call came from shadow international development secretary Andrew Mitchell who said two million people in Burma were in danger because of the failure to develop a civil society in that country.
"We see a regime run by evil thieving gangsters who don't give a fig for their people, who are stealing aid, and who are deliberately blocking the international humanitarian relief which people of good will all around the world wish for Burma," he told the Scottish Tories' annual conference in Ayr. I say that such leaders should be carted off to the International Criminal Court at The Hague and face charges of crimes against humanity."

Take action - China must stop blocking UN action on aid to Burma.
Dear Friends,
The death toll from Cyclone Nargis continues to rise and over 1.5 million
people are now at risk. We know that diseases, such as cholera, dysentery
and malaria, are spreading. If the world does not intervene soon, the death
toll could rise by thousands every day.
No country could cope with a disaster of this scale alone, yet Burma¹s
Generals are shunning the world¹s offers of help; they¹d rather see their
citizens die than accept help from overseas.
If any country can make the generals change their mind, it is China. We have
witnessed the recent terrible loss of life in China following the
devastating earthquake. However, the response to the two natural disasters
could not be more different. While the Chinese government responded quickly,
dispatching 50,000 troops, and Premier Wen Jiabao immediately flying to the
disaster area, the Burmese regime continues to block aid efforts.
China has a very close relationship with Burma¹s generals, supplying them
with weapons, economic assistance and protecting them at the UN Security
Council. This weekend China blocked moves at the UN for a Security Council
resolution telling the generals to let aid in. Every hour China protects
Burma, more people will die.
Please help us break the deadlock. Please email China and demand that they
stop blocking UN action. Your email will be sent to the Chinese
representatives at the UN and in the UK.
Please send an email now here:

MP Of The Helping Town Arrested By Junta
U Aung Kyin, Member of Parliament , Myaung Mya was arrested last night. He is the member of the opposition party National League for Democracy.
The town of Myaung Mya, provided shelter and food to tens of thousands of refugees from neighbouring towns and villages which were destroyed by the recent cyclone.
[The Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) reported that thousands of cyclone victims who have lost homes and families in Cyclone Nargis have come to Myaung Mya township, Irrawaddy division, where locals have given them shelter. Ten emergency relief centres have been set up so far to accommodate those seeking refuge.
A Myaung Mya resident said Cyclone Nargis battered the town from around 5pm on 2 April until 3am on 3 April.
"About 20 to 30 percent of the town was destroyed and all the big trees uprooted. We thought what happened in our town was really bad," the resident said.
"But after we listened to our radios, we realised what happened to us was nothing at all compared to other places."
The town is struggling to cope with the influx of refugees, and food and medicine are desperately needed.
"Now we have over 10,000 refugees from Labutta in our town and there are more and more coming,” the resident said.
“Just a while ago, at around 5pm, another cargo boat arrived from Labutta carrying about 2000 more refugees," he said.
"Myaung Mya authorities are doing what they can but the amount of refugees arriving here is more than we can handle."
Locals are doing whatever they can to help people arriving in the town and the villages along the river.
Myaung Mya residents are also looking after the many children orphaned by the cyclone who have come to the township.]
No one knows why the military junta arrested U Aung Kyin but it is not so difficult to guess that the humanitarian supports and the help his town has been providing for the desperate refugees has clearly annoyed the junta.
Their success at helping fellow villagers without Army intervention has been punished by the Junta just like every other remotely successful activities in Burma.
The NLD representative responsible for organizing this humanitarian success has upset the Junta. Anybody who has upset the junta has to be prepared to spend the rest of their lives in prison, even if that was to help saving other people’s lives.
God helps those to help Burma.

Shoot Anyone Without The Visa - News From Burma
A monk who carried millions of Burmese currency, donated by people of Middle and Upper parts of the country, to help the cyclone victims has been arrested and the money confiscated. (by the military junta)
The city of Rangoon is still covered in debris.
The junta has issued order to shoot anyone who enters the country without the visa, since the day the US Navy asked for the permission to rescue the disaster victims.
Any donation, either by the people inside or the international communities are all confiscated by the junta’s local authorities and the militia (USDA members) and are being sold back to the people. However, there are no buyers.
The civilians are staring at the sky ( in the hope that the UN and US security troops will come)

Remembrance Or Referendum - 10 May 2008 ?
By Goldie Shwe
In less than 24 hours, the day that millions of traumatised people in Burma have been sadly anticipating will begin -the completion of the entire week circle or the Seventh Day After The Death.
For the Buddhists, this Seventh Day is when the rest of the family members, neighbours and friends all gather in unity, to say the best prayers for the loved ones who have just passed away, as they mourn together for the final time.
More importantly, it is also the day of donation when people give the maximum amount they can afford. It usually consists of offerings of the best food and other religious items to the specially invited monks, followed by the offering of more food and drink to neighbours and friends.
The traditional and cultural belief is that prayers and donations on the 7th day after a person dies, helps them to achieve a good after-life. And if you don’t do this, they will struggle to find the right path (to enter a new life).
This thousand-year old culture will be now in the mind of every single member of the families that have survived the deadly cyclone. Where entire families have been wiped out, their neighbours and friends will be carrying out the sad but holy duty.
However traumatised and mentally scarred , physically sick, starving and cold they are, they will now be focusing on the 7th Day Food Offering for the sake of their beloved ones they tragically lost.
On Saturday, 10th of May, the rest of the population, who did not suffer the effect of the storm, will also be praying and offering the food to the monks. People of different religions such as Christians, Muslims and Hindus, who have long lived in harmony with the majority Buddhists, will be also helping and supporting those who deliver the donations.
Meanwhile, the country’s military junta, led by the powerful Generals and their supreme leader Than Shwe, are determined to go ahead with their referendum, the draft constitution they wrote themselves, which has taken 14 years to complete. It would have taken 14 more years if the September 2007 protests did not happen. But it did happen and the hyena Generals who have the brains of reptiles, realised that they needed some kind of seal of approval to confirm the right to rule for ever: the power they robbed from the elected government 50 years ago. They have shamelessly imprisoned and killed off any one showing the slightest disagreement and refuse hand over power, to the democratically elected political party.
Than Shwe and his lap dogs have set their mind on the plan to continue to strengthen their hold on power over the country and would not be deterred or even dream of postponing it. Not even Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary general made a veiled swipe at them for holding a constitutional referendum tomorrow. Unfortunately, he was only speaking in human language to the bestial junta who can’t understand a word of it.
So, whether the whole world is pleading with them to allow the international emergency rescue services to start saving the lives of millions of people or not, the junta is determined to carry on with their original plan to force the civilians to vote for the referendum, at gun point , on this Saturday, 10th May, even though it is the day the heart broken ‘shellshocked’ nation is expected to mourn for the catastrophic loss of the hundreds of thousands of lives to the cyclone, just 7 days before.

Military Dogs Will Use Foreign Aid To Force The Dying People To Vote 'Yes'
No doubt Burma’s hyena military junta only wants the foreign aid without foreign workers so that
1 They can use those life saving aids in exchange of ‘Yes’ votes for their ‘Long Live Military Junta Referendum’ from the dying millions of cyclone victims.
2 They can promote their public relations status and images
3 They can increase their swelling bank accounts by selling 90% of the aid.
Should the international communities support the junta’s political, psychological and financial gain by sending ‘Aid Only’ to Burma?
OR
Send the ‘Aid workers with the Aid’ protected by UN security troops to save millions of dying human beings ?

[BurmaCampaign] Urgent Action: UK must support Security Council action on aid to Burma
Dear friends
On day 6 since Cyclone Nargis struck Burma, most people have still not
received any aid because of restrictions by the regime. Every day of delay
is likely to cost thousands of lives. More than one million people are
believed to be homeless, and more than 100,000 could have been killed.
The United Nations has the power to authorise aid shipments to Burma even
though the regime has not given permission. The French government has tried
to secure a discussion on this at the Security Council, but other Council
members, including the UK government, have not added their support.
In 2006 the Security Council passed Resolution 1674 which stated that the
Council could intervene in circumstances similar to that in Burma.
It is time to demand that the UN Security Council pass a resolution invoking
its responsibility to protect to ensure that aid gets to the Burmese people,
and fast. UK support for this proposal is essential.
Please take action now and send an email to the UK Government urging them to
support UN action to deliver aid to Burma.
Take action here:Nargis-Action
We are updating our website every day as we get more information. Please

Than Shwe Is Not Here But Kyaing Kyaing , The Wife Was In Rangoon
It is now 6 days after the fatal Cyclone Nargis struck Southern Burma, killing an estimated 600,000 people with 100,000 more missing, feared dead. And yet Than Shwe, the Supreme General and the head of State, still has to make his royal appearance. Obviously the death of over half a million people and the starvation of another 2 or 3 millions (and possibly many more if you count the rest of the country) is not in the list of important issues for Than Shwe and his heard of hyenas and thugs.
However, Kyaing Kyaing, wife of the country’s leading thug was reported to have had an annoying moment, when the power supply was cut off at the place she was staying in Rangoon on Saturday, after the cyclone. Dutiful soldiers from the ‘people’s army’ and engineers had to rush to save Kyaing Kyaing from suffering and discomfort, by restoring the electricity supply immediately.
The rest of the city and the country live on in the dark, as they have done for the last 50 years.

Information on International Aid Groups Helping Burma
DW-WORLD.DE
The following international organizations are involved in delivering aid and supplies to Myanmar in the aftermath of a devastating cyclone that killed more than 20,000 people.
UN teams and international aid groups are rushing food supplies and humanitarian aid to Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, after the country was hit by a cyclone that killed more than 20,000 people and left hundreds of thousands homeless. Food and drinking water are reported to be in short supply after Cyclone Nargis swept through the Irrawaddy Delta and the country's main city, Yangon, early Saturday, May 3.
Several international aid organizations are already active in the region and have begun calling for donations to help the victims of the cyclone. The following is a list of some of the largest agencies. Readers should consult the regional chapters or affiliates from each organization to see how best to make the donations. Many also allow donations via the Internet.

The Junta Tries To Stick Their Backsides To The Throne
The Junta of Burma, known as SPDC or Na Aa Pa is trying their best to hang on to the power by refusing to issue visa to the international aid agencies.
The death toll is rapidly rising to 100,000 and millions have been left in desperate need of shelter, clean water and food.
The international community is ready but are struggling to deliver emergency supplies.
All that the government of Burma has to do is to issue ‘Visa On Arrival’ as most disaster- struck countries could have done.
However, Than Shwe and his follower thugs, in the name of government, can not just easily do things like that.
For them, foreigners, especially from the west, are just a threat to their power. They come with news and reports that reflect the true situation of everything and anything. And that ‘truth’ is something that the junta cannot face as they have too much to cover up – the murders, the tortures, the rapes, the robberies, the theft – endless crimes they have committed during their seemingy endless rule.
Giving permission to foreigners to come in, even though it is to save the lives of millions of people, means a threat to the junta’s own safety and security.
So now, thousands of dying and injured people, hungry children , cold and miserable mothers and weakening older people will have to wait patiently for international aid to arrive, while Than Shwe and his thugs continue to enjoy luxury and hold meetings on how to continue to cover their own backsides.

Trying To Get The Brownie Points ?
How Low they are? Junta take political gain out of Nargis
You must be already familiar with the regular news about how Junta not allow international Humanitarian Aids workerd come inot Burma or the Junta initially reject the offered from UN. Some of you will wonder how come? the country was badly hit by the cyclone and the country rular rejected the Humanitarian Aids offer from other countries.
As for Burmese, these things are nothing news, this the Junta STANDARD PROCEDURE. They want the Grass root people of Burma seen them as Saviors of them.

[BurmaCampaign] Cyclone disaster in Burma
Dear friends
Cyclone Nargis has caused massive destruction across Burma. Over 22,000 people have died, over a million people are homeless and tens of thousands of people are missing. We fear the death-toll in Burma will escalate dramatically unless aid is delivered to victims in the next few days. Most people already live in poverty, and have no resources to cope with a disaster on this scale.
We are very concerned about the Irrawaddy division, which bore the brunt of the storms. The region produces much of Burma’s rice and its inhabitants live in bamboo huts held together by grass. We fear that these houses simply did not survive the storm's 190 km/h winds and 3.5 metre storm surge.
We are working hard to help the affected people. We have successfully lobbied the UK government to take action and today they pledged to give £5 million to the relief effort.
No country would be able to cope with this event alone, but instead of warning the population that the storm was coming and making disaster relief plans, the regime did nothing. And now instead of allowing in disaster relief agencies to do their work, the regime is refusing to allow free access to humanitarian organisations. The regime ruling Burma places severe restrictions on the delivery of aid, and this has largely gone unchallenged by the international community. Although the regime has said it will accept aid, there is no information on what aid it will allow and where it can be delivered. It is essential that aid is delivered through independent agencies, such as the UN and aid agencies, rather than the regime, which is likely to misuse or steal aid.
Please check our website for the latest news, http://www.burmacampaign.org.uk/cyclonenargis.php
Thank you.

But Where Are Than Shwe And His SPDC Members?
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he was "very much alarmed" by news of the high death toll, vowing that the world body would "do whatever (necessary) to provide urgent humanitarian assistance."
And many other Governments around the world pledged help for a country that has more often earned the ire of the international community, not least for keeping democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi in detention for much of the past two decades.
Even the United States, which tightened sanctions on Myanmar in the wake of a crackdown on anti-junta protests last year, in which the UN says 31 people were killed, offered emergency aid and put a disaster response team on standby. (full report)
The European Union released two million euros (three million dollars) in initial emergency aid. Germany, India, Japan, Norway and Sweden also quickly pledged to help.
Thailand has announced it is flying in a transport plane loaded with nine tonnes of food and medicines and India is sending two naval ships carrying food, tents, blankets, clothing and medicines.
But where is Than Shwe , the head of the state and his SPDC (state peace and development council) members? Perhaps too busy ordering soldiers, paid for by the people of Burma, to guard their enormous mansions and other personal properties?

Her Choice - Zaw Min Or A Dog ?
By Goldie Shwe (On behalf of the people of Ye Nan Chaung)
Zaw Min, the minister of Electric Power (1) went campaigning in the area of Yenun Chaung, Magwe when he made some derogatory remarks about Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, which made the locals furious. (DVB report)
"He said that if one lets one’s daughter marry a dog, then she will only be a dog's wife, or if she marries a beggar, she will be a beggar's wife,” the resident said.
“He went on to say that if a woman marries a Kalar [vulgar term for Indian and also for westerners] then she'll be a Kalar's wife. He said people would be wise not to make the wrong decision [by choosing the Kalar's wife]."
So on be half of the angered residents of Yenun Chaung, who were forced to gather and listen to Zaw Min’s cowardly remarks, I decided to analyse how his wife Khin Mi Mi actually feels as a wife of the senior junta officer.
a) Zaw Min has the rank of Colonel : he was obviously a senior military man before taking up his civil position. However the junta’s military never fights with enemies other than the ethnic minority groups, who are usually very poorly trained and equipped guerillas. The junta’s brave military actions only shine against the unarmed civilians. What is more, they are known as the world’s most cowardly group of men as they are only good at torturing political prisoners in the notorious prisons. Should a wife of such cowardly man be so proud of him?
b) Zaw Min holds the position of Minister of Electric Power (1): the power supply 'services' in Burma have been gradually going from bad to worse, and now virtually non-existent, since the military junta took over the country in 1962. The leading generals changed - from Nay Win to Khin Nyunt and now to Than Shwe. Names of the ruling bodies changed - from Socialist Government to SLORC to now SPDC. However none, after all these years, has ever been able to muster the competence to manage to supply the country with the sufficient electric power. Should any wife of such incompetent and unintelligent men posses any pride of their husbands’ inability?
c) Both Zaw Min and wife Khin Mi Mi are named among the long lists of notices of sanctions issued by leading democratic countries such as US, EU and Australia. Being named and shamed in the international criminal lists for stealing and robbing their own country ? How worried is Khin Mi Mi, for herself, her children and her family members’ future?
d) Zaw Min is described as one of Burmese government leaders. Well, what is the Burmese government? The government who came to the power by force ; the government who shamelessly ignores the overwhelming landslide victory of the opposition political party – the National League for Democracy – led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi; the government whose leadership and management is so incompetent and corrupt that the country has the worst economy in the world; the government who is responsible for every one of the 400 children, who die from the poverty related causes, daily.
From the bottom of her heart, can Khin Mi Mi honestly and sincerely deny that she wished she was the wife of a dog, a beggar or a Kalar than being married to ignominious and disgraceful criminal and a liar – Zaw Min ?

Fancy A Chicken Leg Salad ?
People’s hatred for the Than Shwe led junta has been so great in Burma, they just can’t wait to vote ‘No’ on 10 May for the referendum.
The latest campaign for ‘No’ vote is that whenever people meet they greet each other with a ‘signal’ question, ” I am going to have a chicken leg salad. Fancy one ?”
Note : A cross as in X, in Burmese is known as ‘crossed chicken legs’.

A Single Copy Of Draft Constitution At London Embassy But You Can’t Read Or Photocopy It
It is reported that the Burmese Embassy in London possesses a single copy of the controversial draft constitution. However none of the Burmese residents in the UK are allowed to see, read or photocopy it.
That means the Burmese expatriates who are supposed to be voting for the referendum in less than 48 hours have not got a clue what they are voting for.
The unavailability of the draft constitution copy has also created suspicion which added disbelief in junta’s statement of it being democratic and justified.
U Nay Win, the Ambassador kindly explained that the free voting system has been arranged so that people should be assured of freely expressing their genuine desire – ‘yes’ or ‘no’- without having to worry about anything else. He also said that any possible assistance would be arranged by the embassy.
However when one of the staff called U Soe Myint was contacted for a copy of the draft constitution he said that it wasn’t quite available, just yet, as the referendum has been arranged in advance for oversea Burmese, so that all the votes could be sent back securely to Burma in time for the national voting day – 10 May.
When asked if there would be any press conference concerning the much publicized draft constitution, he replied, “There won’t be any because the rooms here are not really big enough to hold such public gatherings.”!
