ယင္းဆုအတြက္ ကိုရီးယား အန္အယ္လ္ဒီ အဖြဲ႕က မတ္လတြင္ အဆိုတင္သြင္းခဲ့ျခင္း ျဖစ္ၿပီး ယင္းသို႔ အဆို တင္သြင္းရန္ ကိုမင္းကိုႏုိင္၏ ကုိယ္ေရးသမိုင္းႏွင့္ ပတ္သက္ၿပီး ထိုင္းႏိုင္ငံအေျခစိုက္ ႏိုင္ငံေရး အက်ဥ္း သား မ်ား ကူညီေစာင့္ေရွာက္ေရးအသင္းႏွင့္ လူ႔ေဘာင္သစ္ ဒီမိုကရက္တစ္ပါတီ ဗဟုိဌာနခ်ဳပ္တို႔မွ ကူညီျပဳစုေပးခဲ့ ၾကသည္။

ထိုဆုကို ကိုးရီးယားႏိုင္ငံ ႏိုင္ငံရပ္ျခားမွ တသီးပုဂၢလမ်ား၊ အစုအဖြဲ႔မ်ားႏွင့္ အဖြဲ႔အစည္းတို႔မွ လူ႔အခြင့္ အေရး လႈပ္ရွားသူ၊ ဒီမိုကေရစီႏွင့္ ၿငိမ္းခ်မ္းေရး လုပ္ငန္းမ်ားလုပ္ကိုင္သူတို႔ကိုခ်ီးျမႇင့္ျခင္းျဖစ္သည္။

၁၉၈၀ ခုႏွစ္တြင္ ေတာင္ကိုရီးယားႏိုင္ငံ စစ္အာဏာရွင္ စနစ္ကို ဂြမ္န္ဂ်ဴးၿမိဳ႕ရွိ ေက်ာင္းသားမ်ားက ဆန္႔က်င္ ဆႏၵျပခဲ့သည့္ ေက်ာင္းသားလႈပ္ရွားမႈ၊ ဒီမိုကေရစီလူထုအံုၾကြမႈ စိတ္ဓာတ္ကို ဂုဏ္ျပဳေသာအားျဖင့္ ယင္း လူ႔ အခြင့္အေရးဆုကို ေပးအပ္ျခင္းျဖစ္ေၾကာင္းသိရသည္။

ထိုဆုကို ၂၀၀၄ခုႏွစ္တြင္လည္း ျမန္မာ့ဒီမိုကေရစီ ေခါင္းေဆာင္ ေဒၚေအာင္ဆန္းစုၾကည္အား ဂုဏ္ျပဳ ခ်ီးျမႇင့္ ခဲ့ၿပီး ယင္း ဆုေငြႏွင့္ ေရႊတံဆိပ္ဆုကို ယခုအခ်ိန္အထိ အန္အယ္လ္ဒီ အယ္လ္္ေအမွ ဆက္လက္ ထိန္းသိမ္း ထားဆဲျဖစ္ေၾကာင္းလည္း ကိုေဇာ္မိုးေအာင္က ေျပာသည္။

Security Guard Beaten To Death By Authorities

It is reported that a security guard was beaten to death by members of authorities in Bogalay, Irrawady and a township court lawyer was planning a false witness for the case.

On April 7, U Michael, the security guard at Maternal and Child Welfare Association (MCWA)office was beaten by members of local authorities, causing him to suffer serious injuries. He died as he was being transferred to Yangon General Hospital, on April 8.

“ He was taken to Bogalay Hospital on the morning of 8th but the doctors there asked him to be transferred to Yangon Hospital. He died on the way. A lawyer called Win Hlaing, who is a staff at the local judicial court has been asking the witness U Thein Tun, 7th Quarter PDC Chairman, to testify that he died of heatstroke.”

U Michael had been working there for 15 years but recently applied for retirement. However, he continued to work there as U Myo Nyunt, secretary of township PDC asked him to wait until the chairman post had been filled.

“Since Nargis, the MCWA office was used as a temporary office by the police, the military and the local PDC who all camped there 24/7. All the donated items are stored there too. Of course , Michael knew all about how those items were smuggled out and sold and how the officials drank and watched porn movies at nights.”

Michael was buried at Bogalay cemetery on 10th April. The post mortem examination results and the police reports are not yet known.

Nineteen days after the devastation of Cyclone Nargis, Maung Maung Thein finally arrived at Bogalay, Irrawady, and held a special meeting with the local fishermen. He told them that because of the severe damage caused by the cyclone in the area, he would do his best to help and support them. He then urged the fishermen to apply for fishing rights.

However, when the fishing permits were announced on 7th of this month, none of the local fishermen's name was mentioned! The list contained ONLY people who are connected with either the Military or government authorities.

The Golf Lovling Maj-Gen Showered Villagers With Money

Recently, some of the Ministers and senior military officers were seen sacrificing spending time on their usual favourite hobbies to go on campaigning for the 2010 election.

One of them was Maj-Gen Lunn Maung, the Auditor General, who decided to give up his putting time on the green for a while so that he could start doing something seriously good for the country or at least for Naung Ko, Ba Maw, his birth place. He arrived at neighbouring villages on April 5 and met the villagers at the monastery where he gave them money and presents.

An eye witness said," They announced it was from Maj-Gen Lunn Maung and wife Daw Mya Mya Sein first, before clothes and bank notes were showered everywhere".

It is reported that General Shwe Mann, who earned a honorific title "Thura" for his 'bravery' in fighting the minority army, is extremely concerned about the well being of his own parents who live in Kanyut Kwin, Hpyu, Bago (Pegu').

As a joint Chief of Staff of the Burmese Armed Forces, and third-highest ranking member of the State Peace and Development Council, he had no problem using all his power to make sure his parents could live in peace. He simply sent in the army (Light Infantry Division 33) to carry out the security jobs in the area.

A Muslim ? No , You Can’t Go There

When her ID card was singled out and she was asked to come forward, Ms Khin Suu Min panicked. She was about half way through her long and arduous journey to visit her husband Aung Zaw Oo, a political prisoner, who was serving 22 years sentence in Butheetaung prison, Rakhine.

The security guards at the Ushigpin gate checkpoint, just outside Prome (Pyi) found out that Ms Khin Suu Min was a Muslim and she was told that she wasn’t allowed to travel to Rakhine State. They told her that there would be a special investigation at Seint Ye’ San gate and once she reached that point she wouldn’t be able to return. So Ms Khin Suu Min had to catch a coach at 11 pm to return to Monywa.

Well before she started a journey to visit her husband, Ms Khin Suu Min went to see the authorities about her being Muslim and having to travel to Rakhine and she was asked to show the ID card. After her ID card was checked, she was told that she could travel all over the country , as long as she had her ID card with her.

Nargis Doctors' Criminal Misconduct

It is reported that the doctor-in-charge and his assistant are inappropriately using the items donated specially for the victims of cyclone Nargis.

Dr Than Aung and his assistant Tin Min Aung of Mawlamyine Kyun Hospital are said to be hiring out the speedboats and tolajis (Chinese manufactured farm tractors) donated by UNICEF, for their personal benefit and are also selling the donated medicines to private pharmacists.

The locals who attend the State hospital because they can’t afford private treatment, are made to buy all the medical accessories including plaster and bandages, even though the stock was donated by the international agencies, after Nargis. It is reported that the doctors couldn’t be bothered to see the patients if they can’t afford to pay the charges.

Since Nargis, there is a huge increase of bribery, corruption and misappropriation among the local authorities.

One can't help but keep on wondering which of these heavily made-up, over confident looking ladies with unusual dress sense are called Kyi Kyi Shwe or Aye Aye Thit Shwe. But then, these ladies are not the usual common folks. They are the daughters of the Supremo Than Shwe, the most secretive military dictator in modern history.

Five girls and 3 boys were produced between the top dog Than Shwe and his Queen Bee Kyaing Kyaing although rumours said it that the oldest boy Kyaing San Shwe was the result of Kyaing Kyaing’s previous marriage.

Then the girls hit the headlines when the extravagant wedding video clips were leaked on YouTube in 2006. Inevitably Thandar Shwe , the bride has become the most recognizable face of the Junta’s era.

Still, there are some unanswered questions:

Who is Khin Pyone Shwe , who is reputed to have dated the sycophant Tay Za and then said to have been courted by Maung Waik , the Burmese tycoon?

Who is Kyi Kyi Shwe, whose estranged gay husband Lt-Col Nay Soe Maung (a retired army doctor) is attempting to obtain a US visa to visit Harvard University ?

And who is the second daughter who made US 200 million dollars by selling Burma’s land to Chinese tycoons?

In December 2008, however, the public was blessed with the royal appearance of some members of the dynastic family at a state function and according to Irrawady, the two ladies are definitely Khin Pyone Shwe and Dewar Shwe.

That leaves us with only 2 more daughters to identify – Kyi Kyi Shwe and Aye Aye Thit Shwe. And here, we will have to refer back to the famous wedding videos of the century again. If you watch the YouTube wedding video 14/24 very carefully, you would be able to spot a young man bending over one of the ladies.

If that young man could be the famous Nay Shwe Thwe Aung, who was complaining to his mother about US 5000/- , the daily pocket money she had just gaven him wasn’t quite sufficient for him any more, then , ”Bingo”. We only need to find out who the second daughter is !

Burma cyclone response was 'crime against humanity'

Burma's regime deliberately blocked international aid getting to victims of last year's cyclone, a report has claimed.

The first independent inquiry into the aftermath of the disaster has said the authorities should be referred to the International Criminal Court for stopping help getting through and persecuting survivors.

It found the Burmese leadership failed to provide adequate food, shelter and medical care in the wake of Cyclone Nargis which struck the Irrawaddy Delta on May 2 last year, killing at least 140 000 people.

Around 3.4 million people were effected by the disaster, which swept away homes, farms, granaries, livestock and wells.

Researchers from Johns Hopkins University in America and an organisation of Burmese volunteers called the Emergency Assistance Team – Burma (EAT) have documented what happened in the following weeks.

Military checkpoints were set up across the delta as the regime treated the disaster not as a humanitarian emergency but as a security crisis.

The report claims some people who attempted to distribute private aid were arrested. It details allegations of aid being stolen and resold by the military authorities.

The researchers also claim the army used forced labour, including of children, in the aftermath of the disaster.

According to one survivor: "[The army] did not help us, they threatened us. Everyone in the village was required to work for five days, morning and evening, without compensation. Children were required to work too.

"A boy got injured in his leg and he got fever. After two or three days he was taken to Rangoon, but in a few [days] he died."

There were also anecdotal accounts of people dying in the aftermath of the cyclone due to the actions of the army.

But restrictions in the country mean no one has been able to estimate how many died in a supposed "second wave" of deaths in the period after the cyclone.

Under international law, creating conditions where the basic survival needs of civilians cannot be adequately met, "intentionally causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or to mental or physical health," is considered a crime against humanity.

The report concludes that the United Nations Security Council should refer the junta for investigation by the International Criminal Court.

Junta's Plan For Dog Fights Revealed

On 13 February, members of Rangoon TPDC (Township Peace and Development Council), USDA , SAS (Swanarr Shin) and the reserved Fire Brigades received instructions from the authority which read ;

1 All the above forces must carry out the 24 hours watch duties so as to prevent any anti-government campaign such as poster sticking, leaflet dropping and graffiti writing.

2 The reward for each campaigner caught is K50,000/-

3 If the posters or leaflets are found any where near the trishaw (side car) station or the street traders, then they will get the severe punishments such as the vehicle taken away and banned from trading.

3 All the militia forces must try their best to recruit new members as each township is responsible for its own area. If any anti-government activity occurs, then the officials of that township will be arrested.

That means the members of the Generation Waves front line guys inside Burma will need to take extra care as there are thousands of militia troops in each township.

More importantly we will need some new techniques and methods to outwit the junta’s militia watchdogs.

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to inform you that you might have read some news about "Rohingya Scandal" in recent papers. Some journalists expressed that as if Rohingya are Myanmarese (We do not have Myanmarese. We have only Myanmar People) and tried to seek a better place to stay or to look for a better jobs etc. And an academician Ian Holliday wrote an article by expressing that "Rohingya crisis a part of Myanmar's ethnic strife" and he mixed his article with other internal affairs which can be confused for innocent readers, because of his lack of knowledge of back ground history.

In reality, Rohingya are neither "Myanmar People" nor Myanmar's ethnic group. You will see in the photos that their complexion is "dark brown". The complexion of Myanmar people is fair and soft, good looking as well. (My complexion is a typical genuine one of a Myanmar gentleman and you will accept that how handsome your colleague Mr. Ye is.) It is quite different from what you have seen and read in the papers. (They are as ugly as ogres.)

Did Than Shwe’s Grandson Kidnap Model?

The Rangoon rumor-mill is frequently active, but this might be the juiciest story for years—a soap opera-style plot involving Than Shwe’s grandson, a celebrity model, a jealous ex-boyfriend and a sordid kidnapping.

Sources close to Burmese celebrities told The Irrawaddy that rumors have spread like wildfire around Rangoon in the last two weeks that Snr-Gen Than Shwe’s favorite grandson, Nay Shwe Thway Aung (the thorn in the middle), 17, helped a friend, Aung Myo, kidnap his ex-girlfriend, celebrity model Wut Hmone Shwe Yee (in turquoise).

The two allegedly abducted Wut Hmone Shwe Yee from an unknown location in mid-December and drove her to Nay Shwe Thway Aung’s house in Hlaing Thayar Township where they held her for three days.

The teenage model’s friends apparently attempted to contact her during that time but could not locate her.

According to tabloid journals in Rangoon, model Wut Hmone Shwe Yee is currently the girlfriend of Burmese Hip-Hop star Sai Sai Khan Hlaing. Last year, a YouTube video clip of Sai Sai Khan Hlaing and Wut Hmone Shwe Yee was popular among Burma’s young internet users.

Private journals and magazines in Burma were reportedly refused permission by the Burmese censorship board to publish photos of the model for at least a week in late December after rumors of her kidnapping spread, according to members of the journalist community in Rangoon.

Rangoon-based Weekly Eleven published an interview with Wut Hmone Shwe Yee in its December 31 edition. However, no mention of any abduction was made.

Sources in Rangoon told The Irrawaddy that Wut Hmone Shwe Yee has taken out a lawsuit against Aung Myo. Nay Shwe Thway Aung has reportedly provided a lawyer for his friend.

Wut Hmone Shwe Yee declined to comment on the issue when The Irrawaddy contacted her by phone on Thursday, saying she was too busy.

Nay Shwe Thway Aung is currently studying at Yangon Institute of Technology in Rangoon and is known to be Than Shwe’s first and favorite grandson. He has often appeared in Burma’s state-run media alongside his dictator-grandfather at state ceremonies and on trips.

However, Nay Shwe Thway Aung is no stranger to controversy. In October, reports circulated that he had used influence to get his girlfriend, model Nay Chi Lin Let (Left in white), enrolled in Institute of Medicine 1 in Rangoon.

Nay Shwe Thway Aung was also implicated in a drug scandal in Rangoon last May. Two of his friends, Burmese tycoon Maung Weik and a son of Lt-Gen Ye Myint, Aung Zaw Ye Myint, were arrested after a member of the Than Shwe family found some pills—thought to be ecstasy—on Nay Shwe Thway Aung’s person.

Maung Weik and Aung Zaw Ye Myint were charged with procuring and selling drugs.

Than Shwe’s son, Thant Zaw Shwe, was also at the center of a scandal in recent years when rumors spread that he was involved with certain Burmese celebrities and models.

This is not the first time a kidnapping plot has been associated with the families of Burma’s powerful military elite. In the late 1990s, rumors spread that Gen Ne Win’s favorite grandson, Kyaw Ne Win, and his friends had kidnapped Nandar Aye, a daughter of junta No 2 Vice Snr-Gen Maung Aye.

A few years later, in early 2002, Ne Win’s grandsons and his son-in-law were arrested and charged with treason.

“Sometimes, government intelligence services produce rumors as tactics of psychological warfare,” said a journalist in Rangoon who spoke on condition of anonymity. “Sometimes rumors come from rival groups among the ruling hierarchies.”

Detained Hip Hop singer Yan Yan Chan released

Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – The Burmese military junta authorities on Tuesday released popular Hip Hop singer Yan Yan Chan, who was arrested in April 2008.

The popular singer was released on Tuesday evening by the western district court in the notorious Insein prison in Rangoon after the judge during the court session ordered his release, a lawyer close to the singer's family said.

"The judge ordered his release and so he was freed yesterday evening," the lawyer said.

The lawyer, however, said he is not aware of the charges against the singer and the reasons for his release.

"As far as I understand, he [Yan Yan Chan] was charged in a drug related crime but I am not sure what the charges exactly were. I have not been able to speak to him yet," the lawyer, who requested anonymity, told Mizzima.

When contacted, Yan Yan Chan's family members confirmed his released but refused to elaborate.

Yan Yan Chan was arrested in early April 2008, while staying at his friend's residence in Monywa town in upper Burma.

Yan Yan Chan along with Kyaw Kyaw (alias) Zeya Thaw, was arrested in February 2008 for his political activities and for being a member of the 'Generation Wave (GW)'. He co-founded the first Burmese hip hop band the 'Acid'.

Army demanding local residents for gas pipeline security persist in Thanbyuzayat township

HURFOM, Thanbyuzayat: Local Burmese army battalions are forcing villagers in Thanbyuzayat Township to guard the Kanbauk to Myaing Kalay gas pipeline. Residents unable to meet their sentry obligations are being forced to pay fines.

Saw Nay, 45, a resident of Waekhami village, Thanbyuzayat township said Infantry Battalion (IB) No. 62 ordered his village to patrol the gas pipeline for the next five months, starting in early December. “The Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Than Swe, 50, of Burmese Army IB No. 62 from Thanbyuzayat, demanded we guard the pipeline. They set up a timeline [for patrolling periods] of at least the next five months, starting from this month. He [Lt. Col Than Swe] instructed our village headmen to send two villagers every day. Those who are absent have to pay 4,000 kyat to the village headmen as sentence,” he added.

According to a HURFOM reporter in Thanbyuzayat Township, Lieutenant Colonel Than Swe’s order applied to at least eight other villages located along the Kanbauk to Myaing Kalay gas pipeline route. Affected villages include Waekhami, Anin Kyaung Way, Anin, Waewinkara, Sakhan, Taungout, Pain-Nae-Taw, Krein-Padaw and Sakhan Gyi villages.

“They [the village PDC] attached this order signed by Lieutenant Colonel Than Swe on the board in front of Village Peace and Development Council office,” said a resident of one of the affected villages. “A person from each household must provide security for the gas pipeline on a rotating basis, according to the order. The sentry duty will last the next five months, starting in this month.”

The resident added that, though most villagers have finished harvesting the paddy crop their work is not over. The rice seeds still need to be stripped from the paddy and prepared for delivery to market. People do not have the time to provide 24-hour guard for the pipeline, he said. “But who dares to complain about this unpaid job?” he added.

Most villagers seem to be planning to serve their sentry duty. “My duty will come soon. I don’t want to pay 4,000 kyat. That amount of money is enough to feed my family for two days. So, I have to go and guard the pipeline,” said Nai Akyaw, who had that no one in his village has refused to work and paid the fine for fear of ending up on the battalion’s black-list.

One of the villages included in the order, Anin village, has never been required to provide pipeline security detail. One respected community member from the village told HURFOM that he does not understand why the army is demanding villagers provide security because the pipeline is located over 4 kilometers away.

“The pipeline is far from us. The village is far from the pipeline, about 2.5 miles. So, I don’t understand why the Army forced us to guard their pipeline. We have been never forced to work of this pipeline before,” he side.

The other seven affected villages have been required to provide sentries for the pipeline in the past. “Normally every year we are forced to look after this gas pipeline for no pay,” said Nai Akyaw, 35, from another affected village. “Last year in February, we [the entire village] were required by Artillery Battallion No. 318 to take responsibility for the security of the pipeline for four months.

The Kanbauk to Myaing Kalay gas pipeline transports fuel from the Yadana gas fields in the Andaman Sea. The gas in the pipeline is for two cement factories near Pa-an Township. The gas pipeline passes through five townships in Mon State and local people have been repeatedly forced to provide security payments or stand sentry. Most recently, HURFOM reported in the second week of November HURFOM reported that at least four villages in nearby Mudon Township were required to provide similar sentry duty.

အဲဒီတပ္မွာပင္ မုဒိန္းမႈ ျဖစ္စဥ္ ထပ္မံ ျဖစ္ပြားခဲ့ပါေသးတယ္။ ၂၀၀၂ ခုႏွစ္ ဇန္န၀ါရီလခန္႔က ခလရ (၂၈၇) ဌာနခ်ဳပ္ တပ္ရင္းမွာပင္ ဌာနခ်ဳပ္ တပ္ခြဲမႉး ဗိုလ္မႉးသန္းေဇာ္ ဟာ ေဘးပတ္၀န္းက်င္မွာရွိတဲ့ လားဟူ စုစည္းရြာေလးတရြာမွ အပ်ိဳေခ်ာေခ်ာေလးေတြကို အဓမၼစည္း႐ံုး သိမ္းသြင္းၿပီး အေပ်ာ္ႀကံ မုဒိန္းက်င့္ႀကံပါတယ္။
ဗုိလ္မႉးသန္းေဇာ္ဟာ အဲဒီ ဧရိယာ နယ္ေျမတ၀ိုက္မွာ အႀကီးဆံုးအာဏာပုိင္ ျဖစ္တာမုိ႔ စားေသာက္ဆုိင္ေတြမွာ ေသာက္စားမူးယစ္ၿပီး မိန္းမပ်ိဳေတြကို ေခၚယူညအိပ္ ေပါင္းသင္းခဲ့ပါတယ္။ အခ်ိဳ ႔မိန္းမပ်ိဳေတြကိုေတာ့ ဆန္၊ ဆီ၊ ႏုိ႔ဆီ အနည္းငယ္ေလာက္သာ ႏွစ္သိမ့္ေပးၿပီး တခ်ိဳ ႔ကိုက်ေတာ့ အာဏာျဖင့္ ၿခိမ္းေျခာက္ အႏိုင္က်င့္ခဲ့ပါတယ္။
ဆင္းရဲတဲ့ ရြာက ရြာသားေတြဟာ ပထမေတာ့ သည္းခံေနၾကေပမယ့္ မိန္းကေလး ေတာ္ေတာ္မ်ားမ်ား အႏိုင္က်င့္ခံလာရတဲ့အခါမွာ မခံရပ္ႏိုင္ေတာ့ဘဲ အထက္ စစ္ဌာနခ်ဳပ္ေတြကို တုိင္ၾကားပါေတာ့တယ္။ ဒါေပမယ့္ အေၾကာင္းမထူးတာေၾကာင့္ ေနာက္ေတာ့ ရြာသားေတြဟာ အေရွ ႔ပိုင္းတုိင္း စစ္ဌာနခ်ဳပ္ တုိင္းမႉး ဗုိလ္ခ်ဳပ္ေမာင္ဘုိထံသုိ႔ သြားေရာက္တုိင္ၾကားခဲ့ျပန္တယ္။ ဒါေၾကာင့္ တုိင္းမႉး ကိုယ္တုိင္ ၀မ္ဆင္းသို႔ သြားေရာက္ စစ္ေဆးခဲ့ပါတယ္္။ ဒီလုိ အဓမၼျပဳက်င့္တာကို လားဟူရြာမွ အျပဳခံရသူ အပ်ိဳမ်ားကို ေခၚၿပီး ဟုတ္ မဟုတ္ စစ္ေဆးခဲ့ရာ ဟုတ္မွန္ေၾကာင္း ေဖာ္ထုတ္ သိရွိခဲ့ပါတယ္္။

ဗုိလ္မႉးသန္းေဇာ္ဟာ တပ္ရင္းအခ်ဳပ္ထဲမွာ တလအခ်ဳပ္ခံထားရၿပီး အက်ဥ္းစစ္တရား႐ံုးခ်ဳပ္က သူ႔အား အရပ္၀တ္လဲခုိင္းလိုက္ပါတယ္။ အဲဒီေနာက္ ဗိုလ္မႉးသန္းေဇာ္ဟာ အပစ္အခတ္ရပ္စဲေရး တိုင္းရင္းသား လက္နက္ကိုင္အဖြဲ႔အစည္းတခုမွာ ၀င္ေရာက္ေနေၾကာင္း သိခဲ့ရပါတယ္္။ အဲဒီ ဗိုလ္မႉးသန္းေဇာ္ဟာ အခဲမေက်ဘဲ အဲဒီရြာနဲ႔ တပ္ရင္းအား မၾကာခဏ ၿခိမ္းေျခာက္သံေပးေနေၾကာင္းလည္း သိရွိိရပါတယ္။

Burmese Defense Lawyer Flees to Thailand, Blasts Regime

A young Burmese lawyer sentenced to six months imprisonment for questioning court proceedings against his dissident clients has fled to Thailand after a hazardous journey from Rangoon.

Saw Kyaw Kyaw Min, 29, was one of four defense lawyers convicted of contempt of court after complaining of unfair treatment by the Rangoon court. The other three—Aung Thein, Khin Maung Shein and Nyi Nyi Htwe—are being detained by Burmese authorities.

Saw Kyaw Kyaw Min, who escaped to Thailand some two weeks ago, gave a press conference in the Thai-Burmese border town of Mae Sot on Monday, accusing the Burmese courts of allowing themselves to become tools of the Burmese regime. He had been engaged to represent more than 20 political activists.

In a telephone interview on Monday with The Irrawaddy, Saw Kyaw Kyaw Min said:
“There are no fair trials in Burma. Defense lawyers are denied the right to defend their clients. The Burmese authority is using the courts to pressure political activists by pronouncing long terms of imprisonment.”

By imprisoning young political activists, the Burmese authorities were trying to silence an entire political generation in the run up to the 2010 general election, Saw Kyaw Kyaw Min said.

Among those defended by Saw Kyaw Kyaw Min was the prominent human rights activist Myint Aye, founder of a rights advocacy group known as the Human Rights Defenders and Promoters.

Myint Aye was sentenced to life imprisonment for his alleged involvement in a bomb attack on an office of the junta-backed Union Solidarity and Development Association in Rangoon’s Shwepyithar Township on July 1.

According to the state-run newspaper New Light of Myanmar, Myint Aye funded the bombing, which it said had been carried out by two members of the opposition National League for Democracy, Zaw Zaw Aung and Yan Shwe. Exiled Burmese dissidents based in Mae Sot had also helped fund the attack, the newspaper alleged.

Saw Kyaw Kyaw Min said Myint Aye was innocent and he accused the Burmese authorities of illegally sentencing him.

About 215 political activists, including members of the 88 Generation Students group, Buddhist monks, cyclone relief workers, journalists and bloggers, were given prison sentences of up to 68 years in a series of trials in November. More than 100 were transferred to prisons in remote areas around Burma, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma).

According to rights groups, more than 2,100 political prisoners are estimated to be still behind bars in Burma.

Dirty Thirty firms financing Burmese junta - more to the list

New Delhi (Mizzima) - The lack of effective sanctions on Burma's military rulers has allowed business firms to invest in the Southeast Asian nation providing millions in revenue to the regime, which faces international condemnation given its appalling human rights record, a campaign group said on Thursday.

Burma Campaign UK, in its new 'Dirty List' of companies which have business operations or links to Burma and provide direct or indirect financial support to the ruling regime, said it found 30 more companies financing the Burmese generals, making up the new list of 170 companies.

Mark Farmaner, Director of the BCUK said the list of companies proves that the international community has not imposed proper sanctions on Burma's military rulers to stop these companies from financing the junta.

According to the BCUK, these companies, which have business operations in Burma or has links, are providing billions of dollars to the military regime, which faces condemnation for its appalling human rights record.

While the European Union and the United States have imposed economic sanctions on Burma's military rulers, the lack of sanctions from other countries including Asian countries and the absence of concrete action by the United Nations has allowed business firms to continue dealing with Burma's rulers and providing the much needed revenue to it, the BCUK said.

"If there were sanctions, from the UN, from Asian countries and from the EU, these companies would not be able to operate in Burma," said Farmaner, adding the international community despite its rhetorical condemnation has seen to "No action".

"… and what you had from the UN is nothing, there are no UN sanctions at all," said Farmaner.

He added that although the UN has accused the Burmese military regime of committing crime against humanity by using slave labour, and for flouting the Geneva Convention by targeting civilians, "the UN has not implemented one single sanction against the regime, not even an arms embargo."

Human rights activists have accused business companies operating in Burma of not only aiding the military regime financially but also accused that their involvement has escalated rights abuses in areas where they operate.

Oil giants Total of France and UNOCAL of the US, which had deals with Burma's military government to explore and develop the Yadana and Yetagun gas fields in Southern Burma, were accused of indirectly being involved in human rights abuses perpetrated by the Burmese Army while guarding the gas pipelines connected to Thailand.

Johny Chatterton, Campaigns Officer at the BCUK, in a press release on Thursday said, "To those that claim investment aids the people of Burma, the evidence shows the opposite is true. As investment has increased, the human rights situation has deteriorated."

Chatterton added that new targeted sanctions against the Burmese regime should be implemented if the international community is serious about cutting the regime's financial lifeline.

Some of the companies that are named in the list include Toyota, Qantas, TOTAL Oil, Orient Express, Kuoni, TUI, Schlumberger, BBC Worldwide, Lonely Planet Daewoo, China National Offshore Oil Corp, and Hutchison Whampoa, owner of 3 Mobile.

The BCUK said the new companies added to the list are the result of new information and an inflow of new investment in Burma's gas and hydroelectricity sector. The list according to the group includes 34 companies in the oil and gas sector, 28 companies in the hydroelectricity sector and 57 companies in the tourism sector.

Farmaner, however, said, the list, which is based on research, fails to include all business firms financing the military regime, and is not a comprehensive list as information from the military-ruled country remains limited and difficult to obtain.

But he said, "These are the ones that we have concrete evidence that their involvement in Burma is directly or indirectly funding the SPDC," referring to the Burmese military regime by its official name – State Peace and Development Council.

စက္မႈ (၁) နဲ႔ အက်ိဳးတူ စီးပြားေရးလုပ္ေနတဲ ့ေက်ာ္သာ၊ ရတနာသိဂၤ ီ၊ လြယ္ဟိန္း၊ ေရႊသံလြင္၊ မားသား ထေရးဒင္းစတဲ့ ကုမၸဏီေတြဟာ ႏိုင္ငံျခားက ကုန္ၾကမ္းပစၥည္းေတြကုိ တင္သြင္းခြင့္ လိုင္စင္အား သီးျခား မရရွိႏိုင္လုိ႔ စက္မႈ (၁) ဝန္ႀကီးနဲ႔ ပူးေပါင္းၿပီး ကုိယ္က်ိဳး စီးပြား ရွာၾကပါတယ္။ စက္မႈ (၁) ကို အေၾကာင္းျပကာ ကုန္ၾကမ္းပစၥည္းေတြကုိ တင္သြင္းေနၾကေပမယ့္ တကယ္တမ္းမွာေတာ့ အရည္အေသြး ျမင့္ ကုန္ၾကမ္းပစၥည္းကို ေရာင္းစားၿပီး ျပည္တြင္းျဖစ္ ခပ္ည့ံညံ့ ကုန္ၾကမ္းပစၥည္းေတြကို အစားထုိးသံုးျခင္းနဲ႔ ေရာေႏွာသံုးျခင္းေတြ ျပဳလုပ္ၾကပါတယ္။

အဲဒီလို ၀န္ႀကီးနဲ႔ သူ႔တပည့္ ၀န္ထမ္းေတြဟာ ကုန္သည္မ်ားနဲ႔ ေပါင္းၿပီး မသမာမႈလုပ္ေနတာေတြေၾကာင့္ စက္မႈ (၁) ကထုတ္ေနတဲ့ ကုန္ ပစၥည္းေတြရဲ ႔ အရည္အေသြးေတြဟာ ညံ႔ဖ်င္း က်ဆင္းေနကာ အ႐ႈံးေပၚေနတာကို ေတြ႔ျမင္ေနၾကရပါတယ္။ ဒါ့အျပင္ မသမာမႈေတြအမ်ိဳး မ်ိဳးနဲ႔ အစြမ္းကုန္ ကိုယ္က်ိဳးစီးပြားရွာတဲ့ စက္႐ံုမႉး အမ်ားစုေၾကာင့္ စက္႐ုံေတြဟာ အ႐ွႈံးေပၚၿပီး နာလန္မထူႏိုင္ေအာင္ ျဖစ္ေနရပါ တယ္။

“င” ေလးလံုးကိုေရွာင္ဆိုတဲ့ ဗိုလ္သန္းေရႊရဲ ႔ ေဆာင္ပုဒ္ကို လိုက္နာရမယ့္အစား “င” ေလးလံုးကို ေဆာင္ၿပီးေတာ့ ငါ့အတြက္၊ ငါ့မိန္းမ အတြက္ ငါ့သားသမီးအတြက္ ငါ့ေဆြမ်ိဳးအတြက္ မရွက္မေၾကာက္ ေပၚေပၚထင္္ထင္ အစြမ္္းကုန္ လုပ္ေဆာင္္ေနတဲ့ ဦးေအာင္ေသာင္းလို အာဏာ႐ူးအား ဗုိလ္သန္းေရႊက ဘာေၾကာင့္ အေရးမယူသလဲ ဆိုတာ ေမးစရာရွိေနပါတယ္။

သူ႔ရဲ႕ အမ်ိဳးေကာင္းစားေရးမူ၀ါဒနဲ႔ တကယ့္ပညာရွင္ေတြကို လုပ္ပိုင္ခြင့္မေပးဘဲ ေဘးဖယ္ ေခ်ာင္ထိုးထားတဲ့ သိမ္ဖ်င္းတဲ့ လုပ္ရပ္ေတြ ေၾကာင့္လည္း စက္မူ (၁) ရဲ ႔ လုပ္ငန္းေတြဟာ အခုလို ဆံုး႐ႈံးရတာလို႔လည္း ၀န္ထမ္းေတြက ထင္ျမင္ခ်က္ ေပးျပန္ပါတယ္။ ဦးေအာင္ေသာင္းအေနနဲ႔ အရွက္ရွိတယ္ဆိုရင္ သိကၡာရွိရွိ ရာထူးက ႏုတ္ထြက္ဖို႔ သင့္ေပမယ့္ ေနာင္လာမယ့္ အစိုးရအဖြဲ႕ထဲမွာ ဆက္ လက္ ျခယ္လွယ္ႏိုင္ေအာင္ အစြမ္းကုန္ ႀကိဳးစားေနတဲ့အထိ အာဏာကို မတန္မရာ ယစ္မူးေနဆဲ ျဖစ္ေနပါတယ္။

စက္မႈ (၁) လက္ေအာက္ခံ သာေပါင္းစကၠဴစက္႐ံုႀကီးဟာ ႀကီးမားတဲ့စက္႐ံုႀကီးျဖစ္ၿပီး ႀကိတ္ဝါးမႈ စြမ္းအား ျမင့္မားလို႔ ေႏြရာသီမွာ ေန႔ စဥ္ဝါး ေတြကုိ ကားအစီးေပါင္း (၆ဝ) မွ (၁ဝဝ) အထိ သယ္ယူဖို႔ လိုအပ္ေပမယ့္ ကားမ်ားနဲ႔ စက္သံုးဆီမ်ား မရွိဘဲ အခက္အခဲ ႀကံဳေတြ႔ ေနေၾကာင္း သိရပါတယ္။ မူလကတည္းက ကုန္ၾကမ္းသယ္ ဖို႔ ဘတ္ဂ်တ္မွာ ထည့္မဆြဲတာလား၊ ထည့္ဆဲြလ်က္သားနဲ႔ ေငြေတြ ေပ်ာက္ သြားတာလားဆိုတာ စဥ္းစားစရာ ျဖစ္ပါတယ္၊၊

အဲဒီစီမံကိန္းမွာ ပူးေပါင္းလုပ္ေနတဲ့ တ႐ုတ္ကုမၸဏီကုိ ဝန္ႀကီးက လာဘ္လာဘအျဖစ္ နအဖဥကၠ႒ကို ဖားရန္ ရဟတ္ယာဥ္တစင္း၊ သူ႔အ တြက္ တစင္း ေတာင္းခံခဲ့တယ္လို႔ သိရပါတယ္။

စက္မႈ (၁) ဝန္ႀကီးဌာန လက္ေအာက္ခံ ဂ်ံဳလုပ္ငန္း စက္႐ံုမႉးဟာ ဆီေခ်းေစာ္ နံေနတဲ့ စက္႐ံုထုတ္ေခါက္ဆြဲေတြနဲ႔ မုန္႔ေတြေရာင္း မ ေကာင္းလို႔ အ႐ံႈးေပၚမွာ စိုးရိမ္ၿပီး ဂ်ံဳကုန္ၾကမ္းေတြကုိ ႏွစ္စကတည္းက ဝယ္ယူထားကာ ထုတ္လုပ္မႈနည္းစဥ္အတိုင္း ကုန္ေခ်ာကို မ ထုတ္လုပ္ေတာ့ဘဲ ကုန္ၾကမ္းကုိသာ ႏွစ္ကုန္မွာ ေစ်းတက္လို႔ အျမတ္ရရွိဖို႔ ေရာင္းစားခဲ့ရပါတယ္။ အဲဒီျဖစ္စဥ္နဲ႔ ပတ္သက္လို႔ အမႈ ျဖစ္ၿပီး ဝန္ႀကီးအေနနဲ႔ ပုဂၢလိက အက်ိဳးတူ ကုမၸဏီမ်ားနဲ႔ လာဘ္စားထားတာေပၚမွာ စိုးရိမ္ကာ စက္႐ံုမႉးကို ပင္စင္ေတာင္မေပးဘဲ ရာထူးက ျဖဳတ္ပစ္ခဲ့ပါတယ္။

ဝန္ႀကီး ဦးေအာင္ေသာင္းရ႔႕ စီးပြားေရးေသာင္းက်န္းမႈဟာ သူတဦးတည္းမဟုတ္ဘဲ သူ႔ရဲ႕သား ကိုေနေအာင္ ဦးစီးတဲ့ ေအာင္ရီၿဖိဳး ကုမၸဏီ ဟာလည္း ျပႆနာျဖစ္ပြားခဲ့တာကုိ ေတြ႔ရပါတယ္။သူ႔ရဲ႕ ဖခင္ အရွိန္အဝါကို သံုးၿပီး Export/ Import ဆန္ေတြကို လုပ္ကုိင္ ေနစဥ္ မသမာမႈ ရွိေနေၾကာင္း သတင္းရလို႔ အထူးရဲက ဖမ္းဆီးစစ္ေဆး ရာ ျပည္ထဲေရးဝန္ႀကီး ဗိုလ္ခ်ဳပ္ေမာင္ဦးနဲ႔ ထိပ္တိုက္ေတြ႕ကာ တိုးတိုးတိတ္တိတ္ ႀကိတ္ၿပီး ေျဖရွင္းလိုက္ရ ေၾကာင္း သိရွိရပါတယ္။

ဝန္ႀကီးဦးေအာင္ေသာင္းဟာ ရန္ကုန္ၿမိဳ႕ ရန္ကင္းမွာရွိတဲ့ ေက်ာင္းႀကီးေက်ာင္းတိုက္မွာ ေက်ာင္းဒကာအျဖစ္ ဆည္းကပ္ကုိးကြယ္ေနၿပီး စက္မႈ (၁) ရဲ႕ အလႉပြဲေတြကို အဲဒီ ဘုန္းႀကီးေက်ာင္းမွာ ႏွစ္စဥ္ က်င္းပခဲ့ပါတယ္။ နအဖရဲ႕ ႏိုင္ငံေတာ္ကာကြယ္ေရး မဟာဗ်ဴဟာအရ အိမ္ၾကက္ခ်င္း အိုးမဲသုတ္ၿပီး ခြပ္ခိုင္းရာမွာ ဦးေအာင္ေသာင္းဟာ အဓိကပါဝင္ လႈပ္ရွားခဲ့ပါတယ္။ အဲဒီဘုန္္းႀကီးေက်ာင္းမွာ ကိုေအးလြင္ ဦးစီးတဲ့ (၈၈) မ်ိဳး ဆက္စင္ၿပိဳင္ေက်ာင္းသားအဖြဲ႔၊ ေဒါက္တာစိုးလင္း၊ ဦးတင္ထြန္းေမာင္၊ ဦးၾကည္ဝင္းတို႔ ပါဝင္တဲ့ စင္ၿပိဳင္ အန္အယ္ လ္ ဒီအဖြဲ႔၊ စင္ၿပိဳင္အမ်ိဳးသားေရးအဖြဲ႔ စတာေတြကို စုစည္းေစကာ ဖ်က္ျမင္းအသြင္ အတိုက္အခံမ်ားအား တန္ျပန္တဲ့ အစီအမံမ်ားအား ၾကပ္မတ္ ေဆာင္ရြက္ခဲ့တာဟာ ဦးေအာင္ေသာင္းရဲ႕ လက္ခ်က္ျဖစ္ေၾကာင္း ေပၚလြင္ထင္ရွားပါတယ္။

ဒါ့အျပင္ ဦးေအာင္ေသာင္းဟာ ေရႊဝါေရာင္ေတာ္လွန္ေရး ျဖစ္ပြားတဲ့အခါမွာလည္း ရဟန္းသံဃာေတြရဲ ႔ ႀကီးမားတဲ့စြမ္းအားေၾကာင့္ ႀကံ့ဖြံ႔ ေတြ မႏိုင္မနင္းျဖစ္ေနလို ့ ရန္ကုန္ၿမိဳ႕ ကမၻာေအးဘုရားလမ္းရွိ စက္မႈ (၁) ဝန္ႀကီး႐ံုးအေဟာင္းမွာ စက္မႈ (၁) ေရႊေတာင္ စက္႐ံု ၀န္ထမ္း မ်ားအား အမာခံထားကာ ဝန္ထမ္းေတြကို အသင့္ျပင္၊ စုဖြဲ႔ေနခိုင္းၿပီး လိုအပ္လာရင္ ႀက႔့ဖြံ႔ေတြနဲ႔ ေရာေႏွာကာ စြမ္းအားရွင္ အမည္ ခံ၍ ေခ်မႈန္းႏိုင္ေရး စီစဥ္ခဲ့သူျဖစ္ပါတယ္။
